Bundle offer types explained

Learn how quantity breaks, BXGY, complete bundles, and free gifts behave, and how Shopify product and order discounts combine.

Bundle Discount uses two discount classes from Shopify: product discounts and order discounts. Product discounts reduce product line prices; order discounts reduce the order or a scoped subtotal.

Quantity breaks

Quantity breaks are product discount modules. They evaluate item quantity thresholds and reduce the price when the threshold is met. They are usually shown as quantity bars on the storefront.

BXGY

BXGY is a product discount module. The shopper buys one set of products and gets another set free or discounted. It competes with quantity breaks: when both qualify, the discount that saves the shopper the most wins.

Complete bundle

A complete bundle is a trigger product plus selected bundle items sold as one bundle. The shopper sees a bundle-total price instead of separate per-item discounts. It supports four pricing modes: full_price, percentage_off, amount_off, and fixed_price.

Free gift

Free gift is an order reward, not a product discount. The shopper unlocks a gift product after an order-level condition is met, such as reaching an order amount or item count. Because it is an order discount, it can combine with the winning product discount.

Subscription, upsell, and sticky add to cart

These modules shape the storefront interaction rather than define their own discount:

  • Subscription presents a recurring purchase option next to one-time purchase.
  • Checkbox upsell adds an optional add-on.
  • Sticky add to cart keeps the purchase action visible.
